As we travel through the world there are some people and places that stand out as beacons of energy – they come along at the right time offering support, guidance, energy, and passion. Micah Dash was one of those people. And the best part was that his gift of inspiration and energy was a by product of his life – it came as naturally as breathing.
Micah and his partner Jonny Copp, along with filmmaker Wade Johnson, died this past May in an avalanche in Sichuan China. The news came as a shock and ripped through the climbing community – it was a traumatic loss for American climbing and the international community. It was a tragic loss for friends and family.
In honor of Micah and Jonny, the Copp-Dash Inspire Award has been established in partnership by Black Diamond, Mountain Hardware, La Sportiva, and Patagonia – in-kind support will also come from Adventure Film Festival, Alpinsit Magazine, and the American Alpine Club.
The goal? Help support small teams tackling high endeavors in the worlds great mountain ranges by climbers who plan to personally document their ascents through a blend of media. Of course, in honor of Copp and Dash, the climbs should focus on unclimbed objectives climbed in a fast, light, and clean style.
The application for the Copp-Dash Inspire Award – completed applications are due by March 31, 2010 – get on it!
